"No to Vaping" Campaign
On May 12, the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS) launched its “No to Vaping” campaign. The campaign aims to inform parents of young people aged 12 to 16 about the dangers of vaping, to encourage them to talk to their children about it in a timely manner, and to say no to vaping together.
Vaping isn’t just toxic; it also disrupts brain development and is highly addictive. A study of 12- to 16-year-olds, conducted by Motivaction on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, shows that more than a quarter of them have vaped at least once. Among 12-year-olds, that figure is nearly one in ten. Nearly one in three young people who vape say they do so daily. That is concerning.
The campaign can be viewed online and heard on the radio. At neetegenvapen.nl, parents can find tips and information on how to talk to their children.
In late September, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), in collaboration with the Trimbos Institute and other experts, will host a national online parents’ information session. The exact date will be announced shortly. Later this year, a campaign targeting young people themselves will follow, to encourage them as well to say “no” to vaping.
