Fire Department Brabant-Zuidoost stops the system of key safes and tubes!

Key safes are currently used for rapid entry of firefighters into buildings. A key safe is a safe with a key that allows access to a building. This key safe is located on the outside of a building and can be opened with a general key.

Fire Department Brabant-Zuidoost stops the system of key safes and tubes!

With this, we follow the guideline of the Netherlands Fire Department: an owner of an object or site is responsible for allowing the fire department to enter.

Until when will the fire department continue to use the key tube system?

  • They will still use the key tubes at premises without mandatory notification to East Brabant Control Room until Jan. 1, 2026.
  • They will still use the key tubes at properties with a mandatory forwarding to East Brabant Control Room until Jan. 1, 2027. Owners of these properties are given 2 years to switch to another solution to give the fire department access.

Only if an object has a mandatory forwarding to Oost-Brabant Control Room, the owner must be able to let the fire department in. The owner/user of an object is responsible for this (Building Works Decree Living Environment, Art. 4.226). There are various safe entry systems that can arrange this, even in the case of false alarms.
