Activity Week Dementia Friendly Nuenen: Sept. 21-28, 2024

Nuenen municipality is a dementia-friendly municipality. We strive for a dementia-friendly community, where residents recognize and acknowledge dementia and know how to act if they encounter a resident with dementia. The number of residents with dementia will increase in the coming years. This is why the municipality, in cooperation with welfare organizations, senior citizens' associations and entrepreneurs, is committed to a dementia-friendly Nuenen, in which everyone can participate to the best of their ability.

Around World Alzheimer's Day (Sept. 21, 2024) we are organizing several (free) activities in our municipality.

Test rides with Bicycle Buddies

During Alzheimer's Week, the LEV group together with Fietsmaatjes Nuenen is organizing bicycle rides for people with dementia on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Fietsmaatjes Nuenen has seven duo bikes and one wheelchair bike.

Tour of Van Gogh Village Museum Nuenen

The Van Gogh Village Museum in Nuenen is organizing tours with two time slots: from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The municipality pays for admission and offers coffee/tea. The walk-in is not only for people with dementia, but also for other vulnerable residents such as people with disabilities, brain injuries and lonely people.

Walking with dementia

The dementia-friendly Nuenen working group is organizing a special walking route together with the Van Gogh Village Museum. This route has been specially created for people with dementia and their caregivers. The walking route takes you past important places that inspired Vincent van Gogh. Two trained guides accompany each group. The route is shortened and accessible to everyone. Each session lasts 1 hour. A maximum of 6 participants and their companions can participate per session.
