Setting off fireworks

What is it?

Individuals are prohibited from setting off fireworks on days other than New Year's Eve. Companies or organizations are allowed only during events and if they follow very strict rules. This is necessary to ensure the safety of the public and the environment.

Therefore, only certified companies with the necessary permits may apply for permission to set off fireworks. Only they can register a fireworks event. This must be done with the province. This is because the province is the contact point for fireworks events and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the rules. For licensing, supervision and enforcement, the province of North Brabant engages the OMWB (Omgevingsdienst Midden -en West Brabant).

The ban on selling, transporting and setting off fireworks applies to all New Year's Eve fireworks (where the label says category F2 or F3). It is allowed to set off fun and hoax fireworks (category F1 fireworks) such as pull strings, poppers and stars. These fireworks are on sale year-round and may be purchased and used from the age of 12. For more information on fop and charade fireworks, visit the rijksoverheid website.

Carbide shooting is also prohibited in Nuenen at the turn of the year.

Penalties for setting off prohibited fireworks

Police and boas (special investigating officers) enforce the fireworks rules. If you do not comply with these rules, you may be fined or even receive a criminal record. You can read more about fireworks penalties on the rijksoverheid website.
