Voters with disabilities
For those who are disabled or have difficulty seeing properly, it can sometimes be difficult to cast a vote. To remove this barrier as much as possible, we have made all polling stations as accessible as possible.
Modifications accessibility polling places
- wheelchair-friendly furnishing
- at least 1 voting booth with lower writing sheet
- each polling place equipped with magnifier with reading light
- extra attention to the accessibility of Care Center De Akkers (explanation below)
- Opportunity to vote at the special aids polling station in Son en Breugel (explanation below)
Transportation to the polling place
Are you less mobile and do you need transportation to get to the polling station? Then the volunteers of ANWB AutoMaatje will pick you up at home and bring you back with their own car. They do this for a minimal (expense) allowance.
Preferably contact us as early as May:
- by phone at 040-7114462
- request ride via the online request form
- notify us if your ride goes to the accessible polling station in Son and Breugel(verkiezingen@nuenen.nl/040-2631631), so we can reimburse it
Read all about it on the AutoMaatje Nuenen website.

Care center The Akkers: additional accessible polling station
Parking and signage
At polling place Care Center the Akkers there are 2 disabled parking spaces. The signposts here are placed lower so they are visible to everyone. Inside, you will find additional explanations about the various tasks at the voting table (such as handing out the ballot paper).
Clear walking route
The walking route through the polling place was marked extra clearly in Care Center De Akkers using contrasting tape.
Accessible ballot boxes
The ballot boxes in polling station De Akkers are lower. This also makes it easier to insert a ballot from your wheelchair.
Visual support: collaboration with Son and Breugel
The municipality of Nuenen works together with the municipality of Son en Breugel to make aids available. If you would like to make use of these you will need a voter's pass (explanation below). The aids in the town hall of Son are specially designed for people with dyslexia, low literacy, blind, visually impaired and for people with limited hand-arm function (for example someone with Parkinson's disease).
