What is meant by income?

Your total net income consists of all income from your own business or profession, from employment, benefits, and other income (including income from rental and spousal support).

What are available resources?

  • These are the cash you (and your partner) have or can reasonably dispose of;
  • available cash resources include:
    • cash;
    • money in checking and savings accounts;
    • money on debit and credit cards and digital accounts (such as PayPal);
    • crypto-currencies (such as bitcoins);
    • the value of securities (this includes investment accounts with stocks, bonds, options and securities on deposit).

When am I a partner?

You are a partner if you:

  • Are married or registered partners; or
  • lives at the same address and:
    - have a household together;
    - are ex-spouses or ex-partners;
    - have a child together;
    - you have acknowledged your partner's child or your partner has acknowledged your child; or
    - are registered as partners elsewhere, such as with the tax authorities or as co-insured with a health insurance company.

How long does it take to make a decision?

Completing the application form does not yet entitle you to support. The municipality where you live will review your information and make a decision on your application. You may be asked for additional information.

The legal decision period for processing an application is 8 weeks from the date all required documents are received. The municipality aims to let you know where you stand within 4 weeks at the latest.

Will your data be verified?

Yes, the municipality may check your information both at the time of application and afterwards. The municipality may request information about you and your partner relevant to the scheme from other agencies and individuals. In this way the municipality can check whether you have received the correct amount of benefit. Does an inspection reveal that you have received too much? Then you must repay the excess amount you received. Did you receive too little? Then the municipality will pay an additional amount.
