Unveiling 100-year tree of life Mrs. Alice van der Geugten - Hornung
On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the tree of life (prunus x yedoensis) was unveiled in honor of the 100th birthday (Feb. 1) of Mrs. Alice van der Geugten - Hornung. Born in Java, she and her husband Huib built a life in the Dutch East Indies, where they had 7 children. During the Japanese occupation and the Indonesian struggle for independence, the family fled to the Netherlands, where they eventually found a new home in Nuenen.
Mrs. Van der Geugten was known in the community for her Indian cooking skills, creativity and love of gardening. Even into old age, she remained active and socially involved. For years she looked forward to her 100th birthday, a moment we celebrated by unveiling the tree of life in honor of her milestone.
Congratulations as always!
