Nuenen wants to reuse more stuff: Dwèrse Circle Factory
The municipality of Nuenen would like residents and businesses to reuse more stuff to reduce residual waste. This is why a new project called 'Dwèrse Cirkelfabriek' is starting. There will be a Repair Café where you can have things repaired. Old items will also be refurbished and new products made from waste, which can then be sold in the recycling store. New jobs and work experience places will be created for Nuenen residents to find a place on the labor market (again). In short, it will be an inspiring place to meet people and learn about the circular economy.
Circular economy
The circular economy is about using things and raw materials sparingly. Less stuff is thrown away so that residual waste is reduced. Rather, we give things a second life, for example through the thrift store or by repairing and refurbishing broken things. And when we throw things away, we see if we can reuse the materials to make new products.
The name of the Dwèrse Circle Factory indicates that the project is in Nuenen, hence dwèrs. Also, the switch to a circular economy requires that you look at the use of stuff differently. That is also idiosyncratic or dwèrs. The Circle Factory means dealing creatively with discarded stuff. Stuff and materials are not thrown away but remain in use. They remain in the cycle and thus in the circle. The Circle Factory trains people in creative and practical professions and connects with local entrepreneurs. Thus, the project contributes to jobs of the future in Nuenen.
Alderman Sustainability Joep Pernot is pleased with this project. "We as a municipality won a competition with this project. We think reusing stuff is important where we work with local organizations and businesses to create a more sustainable world."
Collaboration
The Dwèrse Cirkelfabriek is a next step in the development of Werkwarenhuis Het Goed in Nuenen. Many organizations want to work together in the Dwèrse Cirkelfriek: the municipality, thrift store Het Goed Nuenen, social work company WSD, SUMMA College, Hobby Center De Dorpswerkplaats, waste collector Blink, the Brabantse Milieufederatie and the Entrepreneurs Contact Nuenen (OCN).
In the coming months, the plans for the Dwèrse Circle Factory will be further developed. The project is guided by the Brabant Environmental Federation. Would you as a company or organization also want to participate? Then sign up with Sandor Löwik: sandor.lowik@brabantsemilieufederatie.nl.
