Becoming a Dutch citizen through naturalization
What is it?
There are 2 ways to obtain Dutch nationality, namely by:
- Naturalization
- Option
Check first with Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) which Requirements you must meet.
What to do.
If you meet the Requirements for "becoming a Dutch citizen by naturalization," make a telephone appointment (040) 2631 631 to apply for naturalization.
If you meet the Requirements for "Dutchman by Option," please refer to Becoming Dutchman by Option.
- You make an appointment and submit the application.
- You can apply for your minor children living in the Netherlands at the same time.
- You fill out a form saying you want to make the "declaration of commitment. Children under 16 do not have to do this.
Bring to your appointment
- your residence permit
- your valid passport
- your birth certificate
- the integration diploma (or equivalent)
- marriage certificate (if applicable)
- deed of registered partnership (if applicable)
- proof that you have lived together with a Dutch partner for 3 years or more (if applicable)
Foreign documents must be in Dutch, English, French or German. Is this not the case? Then you must first have the documents translated by a translator who is sworn in the Netherlands.
What does it cost?
- Single naturalization request € 1,091.00
- Multiple naturalization request € 1,393.00
- Naturalization application of minor child involved in the application € 161.00
- Single naturalization request if you are stateless or have an asylum residence permit €811.00
- Multiple naturalization request if you are stateless or have an asylum residence permit €1,114.00
