What is it?

Buy or rent residual strip from municipality?

Is there a municipal greenbelt adjacent to your residential lot that you’d like to use? Are you already using a strip of municipal land, but would like to purchase it? It might be very easy to do so. The municipality offers residents the opportunity to purchase municipal land (remnant strips), if possible. Strips located behind the front facade can be purchased for €155 per^{square meter} (with a minimum price of €300). For strips located in front of the front facade, you pay €77.50 per^{square meter} (with a minimum price of €300).

What is a residual strip?

Residual strips are strips of land located at the front, side, or rear of a residential lot and are part of the public right-of-way. Sometimes, for example, there are underground utility lines there that the municipality or utility company needs to be able to access from time to time or in the event of a malfunction. But sometimes we’re talking about true residual strips of land. These strips are no longer needed for public use and can be sold.

If you want to buy a piece of municipal land, we first check whether it is a residual strip and can therefore be sold. The test will include, for example, whether there are any expected developments that require the land and whether there are any cables or pipes.

Renting the residual strip

Is it not possible to buy a residual strip? Then it is sometimes possible to rent a residual strip (for a few years) from the municipality. This is of course subject to different Requirements than buying a residual strip.

Unlawful use of land

An inventory shows that strips of land belonging to the municipality have also been (consciously or unconsciously) added to private parcels. Simultaneously with the sale of residual strips of land, the municipality will deal with this unlawful land use in a neighborhood-oriented manner. Under Requirements , these lands may also possibly be purchased.
