Nuenen municipality adopts new informal care and dementia plans

The Nuenen City Council adopted the new plans around family caregivers and residents with dementia on September 30, 2021. Additional efforts will be made to support informal caregivers and make the topic of dementia negotiable.

Mantel care friendly employment

Currently, 1 in 3 adults provide informal care to a loved one. One in ten informal caregivers feels heavily burdened; the corona crisis has further increased the pressure on informal caregivers. The municipality of Nuenen will therefore do extra work to support working and young family caregivers. Being active on the labor market while caring for someone close to you is a daily reality for more and more residents. The project Mantelzorgvriendelijk werkgeverschap (informal care friendly employment) is aimed at better combining work and Health . Many young family caregivers also care for someone close to them. This creates a lot of extra pressure because they often have to combine this with a study, side job, hobbies and a social life. We will therefore also provide additional support to young family caregivers in the coming years.

Informal caregivers make an invaluable contribution to the lives of their loved ones. The fact that, in addition, a group of volunteers is also active in supporting informal caregivers makes me proud; it shows that Nuenen is a social municipality. - Ralf Stultiëns, Alderman social domain municipality of Nuenen

Dementia-friendly community

In the area of dementia, steps will also be taken in the coming years. We want to be a dementia-friendly community, where residents recognize dementia, acknowledge it and know how to act when they encounter a resident with dementia. The number of residents with dementia will increase in the coming years. That is why the municipality, in cooperation with welfare organizations, senior citizen associations and entrepreneurs, is committed to a dementia-friendly Nuenen, in which everyone can participate to the best of their ability.

More and more residents are dealing with dementia in their immediate or close circle. Yet it is not always easy to respond well. We therefore want to work with various Nuenen parties to create a dementia-friendly community so that everyone can participate to the best of their ability. - Ralf Stultiëns, Alderman social domain municipality of Nuenen

Working Groups

The new plans were developed in cooperation with the working groups Mantelzorg and Dementievriendelijk Nuenen. The working groups also play an important role in the implementation of the plans. Workgroup members are committed residents of the municipality. It is always possible to join one of the working groups. To do so, contact the LEV group in Nuenen.
