The six municipalities in Dommelstroom join Report Crime Anonymously
Municipalities Cranendonck, Geldrop-Mierlo, Heeze-Leende, Nuenen, Son en Breugel and Valkenswaard are going to cooperate with M. (Report Crime Anonymously). The six mayors and Ms. Krijnen of the hotline recently signed six cooperation agreements to this end. The municipalities will now also receive relevant signals about crime and fraud in their municipalities through M.
Undermining crime
The cooperation increases the information position of the municipalities and thus strengthens the integrated approach to undermining crime. In Dommelstroom there has been solid cooperation with the police, the judiciary and the tax authorities within this approach for a number of years. Themes within this are drug trafficking and production, money laundering and human trafficking (including, for example, labor exploitation). By joining forces (administrative, criminal, and tax law), more effective action can be taken against these phenomena in the area. The joint affiliation of the six municipalities with M. is yet another, new example of acting together against undermining in Dommelstroom.
Mayor Ederveen, portfolio holder for Undermining for Dommelstroom: "Important that we detect and tackle this form of crime. The police and municipality cannot do this alone. We desperately need the eyes and ears of our residents for this."
Safety net
M. is an independent organization and not part of the police. M. receives reports about, for example, hemp cultivation, drug labs, illegal prostitution, fraud and unexplained assets. The anonymity of the reporter is always central. The hotline says: "It is always best to go directly to the police if you have information about criminal activities, but in practice this is not always easy. There are many reasons for people not to report cases. For example, out of fear of revenge or because you know the perpetrator. It may also be that people cannot foresee the consequences of reporting or that they simply do not want to have anything more to do with it after the fact. For all these cases, Report Crime Anonymously is a safety net. We make sure the information gets to the investigators, but the reporter stays out of the picture."
Accessibility
M. can be reached seven days a week at 0800-7000. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reporting can also be done 24/7 via a secure environment at meldmisdaadanoniem.nl/meldelden
