Blue-green algae in municipal pond
In the latest measurement, blue-green algae was found for the first time this season in the municipal pond located near the town hall on Jhr Hugo van Berckellaan.
Effects of blue-green algae
Blue-green algae develops mainly at higher temperatures in spring and summer. It also occurs in stagnant water. Contact with surface water containing blue-green algae can cause skin irritation, such as itching and redness. If people or animals ingest the water through the mouth, it can cause gastrointestinal problems. Dogs should avoid swimming in water contaminated with blue-green algae. We also advise against fishing there.
