Report a Protest or Demonstration

Protesting is a fundamental right. To ensure the protest runs smoothly, you are required to notify the municipality in advance. Submit your notification at least 48 hours before your protest begins. Notifying the municipality of a protest or demonstration is free of charge.

Submit a Notice of a Protest or Demonstration

Please indicate the following on the online form:

  • Name and address of the person organizing the demonstration;
  • what the purpose of the demonstration is;
  • the date and time you would like to hold the demonstration (start and end times);
  • the location of the demonstration;
  • the route and the location where the demonstration ends, if there is a route;
  • how the demonstration is organized (if applicable);
  • estimate of the number of participants;
  • what you are doing to ensure that the demonstration runs smoothly and safely.

How far in advance should I give notice?

You must register the demonstration 48 hours before it begins and before you announce it on social media.

Demonstration on Friday afternoon, over the weekend, or on a holiday

  • Will you be holding a demonstration on Friday afternoon or over the weekend? Please register the demonstration no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • On recognized holidays, you must notify the authorities of the demonstration two business days prior to the date and time of the demonstration.

What happens after you file a report?

Once we have received your notification, we will contact you to make arrangements regarding the planned event. 

What are the rules?

The municipality of Nuenen believes it is important that everyone be able to exercise their right to demonstrate. That is why we protect this right as best we can.

We only impose rules on a demonstration when necessary. We do this to prevent disturbances and problems, to protect public health, or to ensure the safe flow of traffic.

What happens if you don't give advance notice?

Protesting is a fundamental right. That is why, as a municipality, we generally allow it. 

If a demonstration has not been reported in advance, the mayor may be forced to restrict it because there was little or no time to make the necessary preparations.
